Font Licences & Credits

Poster Kaaran is built on Tamil typefaces made by other people, and several of those licences ask that the makers be named. This page does that. தமிழ் எழுத்துருக்களை உருவாக்கியவர்களுக்கு நன்றி.

1. About this page

The typefaces below are the work of the designers and organisations named beside them. We use each one under the licence it was released with, and we credit them here because several of those licences require it. Nothing on this page transfers any right in a font to you.

2. Bharathi Azhagu Tamil Unicode fonts (ATM)

Bharathi Azhagu Tamil Unicode Fonts © 2019 by Ra. Duraipandian, Ka. Nagarajan [Bharathi Puthakaalayam] & Chalkpiece Foundation is licensed under Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0).

The collection contains 808 typefaces in 2,102 files, released in 2019 after three years of work and given to the Tamil community. The full set is distributed by the Tamil Virtual Academy.

The fonts are included in Poster Kaaran unmodified. Some are stored under different file names inside the app, but the font software itself is unchanged. Under CC BY-SA 4.0 you are free to copy and redistribute these fonts, and to adapt them, provided you credit the creators as above and license any adapted font under the same terms.

Posters you export are not adaptations of the fonts. Setting text in a typeface does not make the resulting image a derivative work of the font, so the ShareAlike condition does not attach to anything you create with Poster Kaaran.
